History of Leo Clubs

This great idea was first conceived in the mind of Jim Graver, who was the Base ball coach of the Abington High School, Pennsylvania, USA. He was an active member of the Glenside, Pennsylvania, Lions Club. With the help of his fellow Lion William Ernst of Pennsylvania, they persuaded 26 members of the Abington High school baseball team and nine other Abington High School students to form a service club. The 35 Abington Leos formed the first Leo club of the world - The Abington Leo Club. The students chose their school colors, maroon and gold as the Leo club colors.

In October 1967 the Leo club program was officially adopted by Lions Clubs, International.
